15th august, 1947. At the stroke of midnight an ancient civilization resurrected itself. The past couple of centuries had seen it being defiled and defaced by marauding invaders, its values and achievements had long been forgotten. However underneath that seemingly placid surface some embers still burnt bright. With the passage of time they coalesced together and caused an upheaval, the like of which had never been seen before. Once the flame of self-being had been lit in the minds of the people, they were determined to shape their own destiny, it was the time for them to keep their tryst with destiny, themselves, in their own way.

And today, this land and its people have proved all its detractors wrong. It has been a long and torturous journey… sometimes it really seemed that Modern India did not have it in it, that it would end up as a failed state. Diversions along communal lines, casteism, economic disparities, political parties playing to the gallery and sacrificing national interest for the sake of their own ambitions, corruptions - all ingredients were their to sound a premature end to this resurrection. A lesser nation, a a lesser people would have gone down under a long time back. Even wondered why we managed to beat back all the odds? The answer is very simple but very tough for others to understand. It lies in our nature, in our roots. It lies in our infinite capability to tolerate and our steadfast belief that good always triumphs. We just carry on and on and then at that moment comes along someone who provided that much needed leadership and we just sail through.

As Indians we can be proud of the fact that we have managed to build such a vibrant nation out of the ashes that came along that had been handed out to us. We can be proud of the fact that today we are treading on the toes of the developed nations, and forcing them to consider our admission to their elite club.

And as Indians we can also be proud of the fact that we do not brush our black spots under the carpet. We have the courage to discuss about them and give our opinions openly without any fear of reprisals. The need of the hour is to understand what we should do, what we are doing and then appreciate our achievements so that the doubting Thesaurus can be made aware of them. We should then discuss issues that still trouble our land, our country. We and you (the reader) should pledge color all our fellow countrymen in a movement to find out the reasons and the solutions.

Youth needs to be channelized. The passion and expression needs to be realized. We want to keep the spirit of an “Indian” alive and kicking within us - we want to be the best and once again share our brethren around the world the happiness and peace that has its seeds in true knowledge.
